Thinking Bigger about Business

Being More Effective in Business as Mission

Business as mission is a very good strategy under many circumstances, with infinite models and applications. However, I believe we are missing out when we think about business only in terms of a particular strategy. We need to think bigger about business. What does God say about business? What were his intentions when he made enterprise part of his design for human society? I believe understanding this is a key to releasing the power of business for God’s kingdom… Read More
In this e.zine we include new material from Steve Rundle on the emergence of the BAM movement and how that has been connected to new ways of thinking about both mission and business. We have an exclusive interview with Landa Cope on Rediscovering God’s Design for Business. Tim Weinhold shares more in depth about how God intended to connect businesses with the poor. Our Lessons from the Edge come from one of the leading consultants on business as mission. We are also excited to announce a brand new training program, the Business Discipleship Training School, another way to expand your thinking about business.

Rediscovering God’s Design for Business

Landa Interview

An Interview with Landa Cope

In this exclusive video interview, Landa Cope spends time talking about what we have lost in God’s design for business, what God is doing among business people around the world and why we need to dig deeper into God’s word as we launch into ‘Kingdom business’. Landa Cope is in high demand around the world to speak to religious, political, business and professional leaders on the subject of what scripture teaches us practically about discipling nations. Everything she teaches is from her extensive study of the Bible, using it as a template that provides transformational values for each arena of society.

The Emergence of the BAM Movement

Steve Rundle

Not long ago the Wall Street Journal noted a significant change in the attitudes of university business students. Compared to other incoming classes in recent memory, today’s young people are more interested in using their business skills to make a positive difference in society. Undoubtedly, many have been inspired by social enterprises like Tom’s Shoes, Kiva, and Chipotle’s Mexican Grill, as well as turned off by stories of corporate excess on Wall Street.  In Christian circles we are seeing something very similar. Neither motivated by money, nor embarrassed about making it, these business as mission enterprises and the entrepreneurs who start them defy easy classification.  Business as Mission has the potential of being a major force for good in the neediest parts of the world, but there is much work to be done in helping the next generation understand what practices, attitudes, structures and conditions help make BAM most effective.
